The First Week

Many of the people that read my blog know how obsessed I am with getting a 5.0 Mustang, well I finally got another Mustang! After my last bad experience using http://craigslist.com I gave it one more shot looking for my dream car and there it was. I emailed a few people but the only one to respond was a couple in DE. It had four pictures of a Navy Blue / Gray with a Gray interior with those really nice seats so I had to go take a look.

1987 Ford 5.0 Mustang- 5 speed – $2600 (Bridgeville, Delaware)

I have an 87 ford mustang, 5 speed transmission. It is blue with sliver at the bottom. It has well rims, flow masters, new small pump with new pulley, shaved head, and gears in the rear, good interior. It has some small rust spots. The headlights just went out so it needs new ones. I was told by parts store that it needs a relay switch for the lights. It will pass inspection when the part for the headlights is put in. It is the original motor in the car. It has been turned over. Currently has 65,000 miles plus the turnover. It has good year tires, street tires, wide. The price is negotiable.

I went to see it as soon as I got off of work and picked Nathan up from daycare. After looking it over inside and out I decided to buy it. I gave the guy the money for the car and $100 extra for the original rims. It was a long drive there and back but it seemed like it only took 10 minutes. I was thinking about all the things I would do to it.

I couldn’t wait to go and get my car so after I did some work for John Casey I went to Target to grab some things I needed like a tire gauge, emergency road kit, bungee cords to hold the rims still, and some oil. Then I went home and had Jazz meet me. I grabbed my front tag off the Intrepid and we made the trip down there. After driving the car back I noticed that it needed new rotors and the engine/driveline/differential was acting funny when I would let off of the pedal ever so slightly as to keep the speed of the car steady. I had the same problem with the LX. It was obvious the it needed some fuel additive that you can get at the Auto Zone that cleans the injectors, valves, and chambers. As soon as I got it home Jazz took some pictures of the car.

She left shortly after and I went out to the store to grab some thing for the car. My compressor was shot and kept blowing fuses so I got a new compressor and some fuses that would work on that car. Then I went next door to WalMart and grabbed some fuel system cleaner and some octane booster. I also got some blind spot mirrors because I had a hard time seeing to make lane changes with those small mirrors. So I checked the fuses and replaced one bad fuse and emptied out the car of the rims and stuff.

So first thing I do Monday after I have my morning meetings I ran down to the MVA in Beltsville and Apply for the Historic tags. Heather went with me. The historic tags are awesome; I do not have to pass a Maryland state inspection or an emissions test! Lucky for me because it would not have passed the MD inspection. As soon as I got done there I picked up Nathan and took the car down to Jiffy Lube to get all the fluids taken care of. She was running a bit smoother after that. So that night I was sitting at the computer and decided to order some new brakes and rotors and an air filter kit from latemodelrestoration to fix the only other problem with the vehicle’s drivability.

I hate locking gas caps! In order to fill the tank there is one more step to filling up. The last thing I want to do is struggle with a gas cap before struggling to fill my tank up with premium gas. Lol. On top of that my blonde wife cant seem to ever figure it out and uses the other car instead so I went and got a standard cap today.

So I spent
